Yoda who? Our favourite little green friend from the Star Wars franchise, first seen in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, making a return in its sequel Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi. Learn how to talk like Yoda - just type or paste in a bunch of text and use the 'Convert to Yoda-Speak' button.
Take the first two or three words of a sentence, and just add them to the end. For example: 'You will find what you are looking for' turns into 'Find what you are looking for, you will.' Rearranging the negative in a sentences works very well. For example: 'I will not help you' turns into 'I will help you not.' Yoda's speech is designed to be understandable but odd for Engl-sp audiences, in a way that matches certain recognizable patterns of Engl speech, and evokes a certain character thereby. So if there is a term in the field of Engl grammar that describes postposing of S and an aux V, as in '(I expected to finish the race, and) finish I did ', I. Note: If the list of available text-to-speech voices is small, or all the voices sound the same, then you may need to install text-to-speech voices on your device. Many operating systems (including some versions of Android, for example) only come with one voice by default, and the others need to be downloaded in your device's settings. - Please don't just try 'Hello.' Nothing will change. Yoda won't answer back, he'll just repeat. It's not the same thing as a conversation.
- In the Star Wars movies, Yoda speaks short sentences for a reason. If the result is total garbage, that could be why!
- Make sure you use proper english grammar and punctuation, our little green friend can't read your mind. 'Don't', instead of 'Dont', and so on.
- The exception is this: You should use extra punctuation if a sentence contains more than one clause, often split with 'and', 'or', etc. For example: 'Put your hands up and step away from the turnip.' should be 'Put your hands up, and step away from the turnip.' or 'Put your hands up. Step away from the turnip.'
- If using commas and full stops in currencies or initialisms, do not use spaces.
- The use of parenthesis is not yet recommended, though I will work on them.
- If there are issues and a sentence is not yoda-fied as you think it should, it could also be because I haven't yet included all the words I need to in the search formulas. If I spot a dodgy result, I'll get around to working on it. :)
